Why should you participate in the ‘EU Satellite Conference’ from 21 to 23 April on Bonaire?

The ‘EU Satellite Conference’ on Bonaire offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to urgent regional challenges while simultaneously taking a strategic step toward international cooperation and economic growth in the region, whether you are active as a policymaker, entrepreneur, or affiliated with a knowledge or research institution. The conference is explicitly designed as a working conference: no abstract explorations, but focused deep-dive sessions in which public and private stakeholders jointly develop concrete solutions to challenges specific to the Caribbean islands.

These sessions focus on themes such as climate adaptation, the sargassum challenge, early warning systems, defence strategies, search and rescue operations, digital infrastructure and connectivity, spatial development issues, and sustainable tourism. The emphasis is not only on analysis and knowledge exchange, but above all on translating satellite and digital applications into directly applicable solutions, pilots, and new partnerships.

At the same time, the conference serves as a stepping stone to a broader network in the Caribbean and Latin American region. With the participation of, among others, DG INTPA and EUSPA from the European Union, the Dutch Ministries of Infrastructure and Water Management, Economic Affairs, the Interior and Kingdom Relations, and Defence, as well as representatives from the six Caribbean parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Association of Caribbean States, and countries such as Colombia, Panama, and Chile, participation provides direct access to European and international policymakers, funding instruments, and innovation programmes.

This is particularly relevant in light of the approximately €46 billion in investments under the EU Global Gateway in Latin America and the Caribbean. Reliable digital and satellite infrastructure and its downstream applications are essential to these investments, ranging from climate resilience and security to economic development and sustainable connectivity.

In short, the ‘EU Satellite Conference’ on Bonaire connects local and regional urgency with international strategic opportunities. Participants position themselves not only as solution-oriented partners for the development of the Caribbean region, but also as active players within a growing European and Latin American ecosystem with significant policy, societal, and economic potential.

The conference is free of charge and will take place from 21 to 23 April at Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire.
